Why Juárez

A city that needs hope

Ciudad Juárez is listed as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Many of the children Ethan & Lindsay serve live in extreme poverty and have witnessed violence, corruption, and trauma most of us can't imagine.

The Effersons have worked full-time in Juárez since 2018 — and in all that time, they've never once felt unsafe. God has opened doors, again and again, for hope to reach kids who need it most.

What we do

Six Hunger House locations. One mission.

Across six Hunger Houses in Juárez, Ethan & Lindsay's teams share the Gospel and meet real, daily needs.

Share the Gospel

We teach weekly Bible lessons and Bible studies, created in-house, so the children can grow in their faith and know they're loved by God.

Daily meals

Micronutrient meals served daily, five days a week, at each Hunger House location.

Medical care

Medical support for kids whose families often can't access basic healthcare.

Tutoring & tuition

Tutoring and tuition assistance help kids stay in school and build a future.

Our story

A leap of faith, 1,200 miles

Ethan and Lindsay were born and raised in Alabama, working steady jobs in the medical field. In 2015, on a mission trip to Juárez, Ethan felt God's unmistakable call to leave it all behind and move his family to the border.

In 2017, they did it — quitting their jobs, leaving Alabama, and founding Hunger House International to feed hundreds of children the things they truly hunger for: love, attention, trust, direction, and the Gospel. For many of these kids, Hunger House is the only place they'll ever hear that Jesus loves them.

Ethan & Lindsay live entirely off the support of individuals and churches who believe in this work. Monthly partners are the only reason six Hunger Houses can keep their doors open, and Ethan & Lindsay can keep working full-time reaching the children of Juárez with the Gospel.
